These are a few methods to advance spiritual growth, that I have tried that work for me, but there are so many more. I’d love to hear what works for you.
1. Meditation
- I consider meditation to be good hygiene for the mind.
- It’s a way of cleansing and clearing away all the clutter from the day.
- During meditation you purify your mind by letting it settle, focusing on the breath, not judging yourself or any thoughts that pass by.
- Eventually you move into a state of harmony and bliss where you are free of worries, and you just are.
- That for me has been the pinnacle of my spiritual growth recently, is realizing that simply Being is enough.
- It’s more than enough because nearly everything in this universe is a miracle.
- Just being what we are.
2. Yoga
A few years ago, I committed to myself to do yoga every day and it absolutely transformed my life. I learned that being flexible is a strength. Although my muscles weren’t bulging, I could feel that my ability to adapt to everyday things in life changed.
I changed from being a stubborn “No” to being a curious “Why not?”. During this time, I also read several spiritual books including The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Sri Swami Satchidananda.
From this book I now understand that yoga is not only a series of body positions, but also a state of mind.
When we are practicing yoga, we are training our:
- mind,
- body,
- and breath to flow with life
In doing this we can allow ourselves to feel more and let go of pain that is stuck in our bodies, essentially healing from the inside out.
Yoga is meditation and if you practice knowing this or not, it will improve your spiritual growth through balancing your Chakras and moving Kundalini energy in your body.
If you commit to a daily practice, this change in energy flow will be felt and can lead to spiritual awakening.
3. Breathwork
As an integrated practice with methods 1 and 2, breathwork on its own is transformative.
From personal experience I have seen simple breathwork practices calm school age children and ease stress and anxiety during high pressure situations.
The key is remembering to stop and breathe in 4 breaths and out 8 breaths. Studies have shown that a longer out breath calms the parasympathetic nervous system.
This is why practicing breathwork during down time trains the nervous system to self-sooth during moments of stress.
Being able to remain calm while moving feelings of anger or frustration or pain through the body is a good sign that you are growing spiritually.
Emotional intelligence is essential for connecting to your intuition and allowing chi/energy to flow easily and naturally.
4. Gratitude
This is just the best feeling!
Its vibration is so high!
Being in the place of gratitude simply elevates you to a higher state.
For me, I wake up in the morning and start practicing gratitude in the little ways throughout the day.
- Practice thanking my food & drinks at meals
- Put thank you stickies all over your house, on the fridge, even on the trash cans
- Thanking everyone I meet for being here
- Thanking God, even for mistakes that I make, because those are showing me more ways to grow
- Writing a gratitude journal daily
If I am ever feeling frustrated, I try to remember how grateful I am that I am even here to experience this situation, or the people involved.
It’s incredible how many people and energies are always supporting us.
Much gratitude to anyone reading this now.
5. Crystals
I have been drawn to crystals and raw gemstones throughout my life. As a child I dug for big chunks of quartz from our red clay earth in Maryland and I would pretend it was diamonds.
Who else out there is into rocks and geology?
Until recently, when I have been feeling more spiritually in tuned, I have been also able to feel into the energies of the different styles of crystals.
Crystals can assist in accelerating your spiritual growth, by either amplifying or absorbing energies.
Simply hold one in your palm, wear one, or place some near your bed and intuitively feel the effects. If you are a beginner, this book, Crystals for Beginners by Karen Frazier is really helpful for breaking down the details of working with crystals. If you are interested in working with crystals, I heave a beautiful selection in my boutique shop.
Let me know which ones are your favorite so I can make sure to have them available for you. I created an Intuitively Chosen Crystals Kit for anyone who is new to working with crystals and doesn’t know which one to pick, or if they want to give crystals as a gift for a friend. You will receive my free guide How To Work with Crystals.
And there are a million other ways to support your path to enlightenment that I wish for you beautiful soul. Thank you, friends, for sharing this moment with me and please feel free to leave a comment with any stories or suggestions that you have for spiritual growth.
